In 2025, the South Carolina State University National Alumni Association Atlanta Chapter renamed its Need-Based Scholarship in honor of Carol Moorer Richburg, a loyal daughter of the Class of 1975, in recognition of her outstanding leadership, dedication, and contributions to the Atlanta Chapter.

The scholarship provides financial assistance to eligible South Carolina State University students who demonstrate financial need and meet the established requirements.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria and submit the required documentation:

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be enrolled full time at South Carolina State University.
• Must have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours and be classified as a sophomore, junior or senior. 
• Must maintain a satisfactory grade point average (GPA) and be in good academic standing.

Required Application Documentation

• Current semester financial statement reflecting the student’s need.
• Transcript or grade report from previous semester displaying GPA.
• Documentation of three methods of financial assistance sought.
• Referral information from an alumnus/alumna Alumni or South Carolina State University campus representative.
• Student’s contact information, including email address, telephone number, and student identification number.
• A statement of financial need, limited to 50 words or less, explaining the circumstances necessitating assistance.

All required documentation must be submitted for consideration.
